The Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition (SACN) – Lay Member

The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) is looking to appoint a lay member to the Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition (SACN).

SACN is a UK-wide advisory committee set up to provide advice to the UK government on nutrition related matters.

The committee meets 3 times a year and is made up of specialists from a range of relevant disciplines and includes lay members. Members are expected to contribute robust views representing the interests of the wider public.

Applications are sought from members of the public:

  • with experience of scrutinising complex documents
  • general awareness of current food and nutritional issues and an appreciation of the wider public perceptions of these
  • track record of significant achievement and personal effectiveness
  • experience of representing the wider public and/or committee or board experience

Appointments are likely to be up to a maximum of 3 years in the first instance and will be determined by OHID’s Senior Responsible Officer for SACN. It will involve a time commitment of up to approximately 10 days per year.

Remuneration will be £200 per meeting and expenses will be paid in line with DHSC policy.
