Performance Nutritionist
JOB PURPOSE
- To develop and deliver the nutrition service provision for the Men’s First Team and Boy’s Academy squads at Charlton Athletic Football Club.
- To contribute to and support the nutrition catering service provision at Sparrows Lane Training Ground to enhance performance, and positively contribute towards on and off-pitch training objectives.
- To work with the Director of Performance Services to formulate the club nutrition strategy, and ensure aligned with Performance Services and Coaching strategies.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide specific evidence based nutrition interventions for individual athletes.
- Regularly collect, monitor and feedback individual athlete anthropometric and body composition data.
- Review the impact of performance nutrition support across Men’s First Team and Boy’s Academy programmes.
- Educate athletes and support staff on nutrition strategies to enhance performance, recovery, and health.
- Collaborate with science and medical staff members to deliver on the Performance Services departmental strategy.
- Develop supplemental strategies for individual athletes aimed to support their performance and recovery requirements.
- Provide individual interventions for injured and rehabilitating athletes.
- Develop performance nutrition menus for use at home and away, supporting team performance and recovery.
- Lead the nutrition supplement provision at the club with specific consideration of anti-doping regulations.
- Maintain comprehensive records and database of work conducted with athletes.
- Contribute towards in-house research projects, contributing towards scientific literature.
MAIN JOB REQUIREMENTS AND PERSON SPECIFICATION
Education/Qualifications/Training:
- Qualification at degree level in an appropriate subject.
- Qualification at higher degree level in an appropriate subject (MSc or equivalent).
- Accredited Sports Nutritionist or equivalent (i.e. SENr accredited).
- ISAK level 1 accreditation.
Specific Experience:
- Experience as a practicing registered nutritionist.
- Experience in providing nutritional support to professional athletes to improve performance.
- Experience of translating evidence-based information into understandable advice for different stakeholders.
- Experience of designing and implementing nutritional education and resources in an elite sporting environment.
- Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team to deliver holistic performance services to high performing athletes.
- Experience of understanding the requirements of elite athletes in a high-performance environment.
- Experience managing a supplement provision for a team sport.
