About AfN

Who we are

The Association for Nutrition (AfN) defines and advances standards of evidence-based practice across the field of nutrition and at all levels within the workforce.

Our Charitable Objects are to:

  • Promote the health of the public by the promotion and maintenance of high standards of practice among, and the regulation of, nutritionists;
  • Advance the study and practice of nutritional science and medicine;
  • Advance the education of the public and to promote research for the public benefit in the field of nutrition, health and allied subjects.

Our Strategic Outcomes for 2020-2025

  1. Everyone recognises the value of the nutrition profession and the essential role of AfN and its register.
  2. We have high standards for education, training and practice, developed through stakeholder engagement
  3. AfN standards are recognised as the benchmark for the regulation of nutritionists in the UK and beyond
  4. Our registrants are supported to be effective in their roles through clear guidance, a CPD framework and robust regulation

What we do

The work that we carry out is broadly split into three parts:

Defining standards for the training, practice and continuing professional development of nutrition professionals.

Advancing standards of nutrition competence across the wider workforce.

Communicating with the media and others in public and policy is a vital element of our work, as well as keeping our registrants updated on our progress.

How we operate

The AfN is registered both as a Charity (1136624) and a Company Limited by Guarantee (06488331). We are therefore governed by a Council of Charity Trustees and Directors.

The Council sets the strategy and direction for the organisation and is supported by five committees; Business, Planning & Governance (B,P&G), Finance, Registration, Accreditation and Certification.

The Articles of Association and Governance Rules set out how AfN’s Council and Standing Committees operate.
