Certification Committee Chair
AfN is seeking to appoint a new Chair to its Certification Committee. The Certification Committee oversees our certification of nutrition training for those working below nutritionist level within the Catering, Fitness & Leisure and Health & Social Care sectors. This is an exciting time to take up this role, as we work on the implementation of revised standards for certification, and will provide an opportunity to help share the guidance and application of these standards.
Duties
The duties of the Chair include:
- chairing meetings of the Certification Committee
- liaising with the Deputy Chief Executive (or appointed deputy) to identify matters for the agenda of committee meetings;
- ensuring the smooth running of committee meetings in accordance with the terms of reference and the responsibilities described therein;
- responding to, making decisions and taking action on matters arising in between meetings for matters where the committee has delegated responsibility;
- occasionally undertake assessments and/ or mentor new assessors when appropriate (such as second opinion assessments)
- representing the committee and engaging more widely in the business of AfN as a member of the Business, Planning and Governance committee;
- engaging more widely in the business of AfN as a member of Council.
- liaising with AfN staff and other standing committees to support the smooth running of AfN
Time Commitment
Certification Committee:
- Three meetings per annum, each lasting around two hours, usually held online
- Meeting preparation – approx. one hour per meeting
- Follow up actions – occasional, approx. one to two hours per meeting
Business Planning and Governance Committee
- Three meetings per annum, each lasting around two hours, held online
- Meeting preparation – approx. one to two hours
- Follow up actions – limited
- Occasional activity between meetings, such as email responses
Council
- Three to four meetings per annum, each lasting around five hours, mix of online and in-person
- Meeting preparation – approx. one to two hours
- Follow up actions – occasional
- Participation in trustee training
- Occasional activity between meetings, such as ballots and email responses
Remuneration
This is a voluntary position without remuneration. Expenses will be paid in accordance with the AfN expenses policy
Person specification
Essential Criteria
The successful candidate will
- Be a Registered Nutritionist (RNutr)
- Have an understanding of quality assurance and/ or certification of training courses
- Have a working knowledge of AfN’s certification frameworks, standards and procedures.
Desirable Criteria
The successful candidate is likely to
- Have experience of contributing to the delivery of nutrition training to the wider (non-nutritionist) workforce
- Have experience as a certification committee member or certification assessor
