UKVRN Registration Officer

The Association for Nutrition (AfN) is recruiting for a Registration Officer. This position supports the daily operation of the UK Voluntary Register of Nutritionists (UKVRN) and the Registration Office, providing administrative support to the Registration Manager. The Registration Officer is responsible for ensuring a high degree of accuracy with the data inputted as this is essential to the smooth running of the Registration Office and of the UKVRN.

The Registration Officer duties include receiving and processing applications to join the UKVRN as well as nominations to AfN Fellowship. The Registration Officer will also be responsible for assisting with the Association’s bi-annual renewal process, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and assist with administering our CPD endorsement scheme.

The Registration Officer is the first point of contact for general queries from both registrants and the public, with enquiries being in regards to core aspects of the AfN work including registration, degree programme accreditation, CPD endorsement and course certification and advising on study and career options for those wishing to work within nutrition.

The post is part time at 28hrs/wk worked over either 4 or 5 days a week (Monday to Friday). Part time staff working hours are by prior agreement, with flexibility in start/finish times within normal office opening hours (Monday-Friday, 0900 - 1700). All AfN staff are also expected to work occasional evenings/weekends to support events, conferences or institutional visits, for which time off in lieu is provided. The post holder will also be expected to travel with occasional overnights stays (anticipated to be no more than 2 or 3 nights in 2017).

The AfN is the independent, voluntary regulator for qualified nutritionists in the UK and is a registered charity. We protect and benefit the public by promoting evidence-based nutrition science and championing high standards of practice in the nutrition profession.

You should understand and be sympathetic towards our aim to promote evidence-based nutrition science and our role in standards-setting across the workforce, however, a nutrition qualification is not essential for this administrative role.

The Diet & Obesity team at Public Health England is seeking to recruit a Senior Nutrition Scientist (SEO), to work within the Dietary Improvement team and take forward the reduction and wider reformulation programme specifically focused on the nutrients of concern including sugar, calories, salt and saturated fat. Significant expertise and experience in working with nutrition, public health stakeholders is recommended for this post. Key duties will include working with all parts of the food industry and as well with colleagues across PHE and in the Department of Health, to develop and implement policy in these areas and ensure progress is made. The Sugar Reduction team leader will manage the post.

The Senior Nutrition Scientist should have a sound knowledge of food composition and how it impacts on diet, as well as data analysis and interpretation skills. Previous experience of policy development and an understanding of this in relation to food are also important. Experience of working with a wide range of stakeholders – including the food industry, NGOs and local authorities – would be beneficial. You will need to be very organised, flexible and have experience of working in a pressurised environment.
